== COOPS == The BioMicro Center at MIT is a cutting edge genomics core facility which specializes in DNA sequencing and offers a wide range of services to researchers both inside and outside of MIT. The facility hosts and operates a large amount of advanced instrumentation as well as maintains significant integrated LIMS infrastructure to assist with data management and analysis. While maintaining a steady workflow, the BioMicro Center also performs experimental work aimed at optimizing and automating existing services offered at the facility. While co-ops are primarily responsible for quantification and sample prep, their tasks may extend further depending on the capabilities of the student. <BR> Responsibilities and Duties: * Quantification of RNA and DNA samples * Creating Illumina-ready libraries for sequencing using a number of techniques * Optimizing protocols whenever necessary * Maintaining a detailed lab notebook * Inputting samples into central database * Interacting with users and researchers from inside and outside of the MIT community Job Skills Required: * Proficiency in basic lab skills (e.g. pipetting, proper sterile technique, dilutions) * Prior lab experience in a molecular biology setting * Maintenance of organized lab notes for a large number of projects * Solid mathematical background. * Moderate computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Calendar) * Acuity in maintaining sufficient lab supplies * Proficient interpersonal skills * Ability to work effectively in a group environment and independently * Ability to learn scientific principles and concepts efficiently * Motivational attitude, flexibility, and versatility when working in a rapidly growing environment.
