== [http://web.mit.edu/urop/ UROP 1] == '''Project Title:''' Mutation Identification using Next-Generation Sequencing.<BR> '''Project Description:''' The practice of genetics has changed dramatically over the last few years as a result of next generation sequencing. Rapid reductions in sequencing costs mean that it is now often less expensive and significantly faster to sequence an organism to find mutations, instead of using classical mapping methodologies. Many challenges remain, however, and sorting through the large amount of sequence data to identify all of the alterations in an organism’s genome remains a complex problem. In addition, informatically sorting out which of those changes are associated with specific phenotypes and which changes are silent can be a tedious, and often inaccurate, process. You will be working with other bionformaticists to evaluate different algorithms for mutation identification and will be involved in creating automated processes to perform both basic and more advanced analyses of the data.<BR> '''Prerequisites:''' Programming with Python or Perl and 7.01 required. Interest in working multiple semesters in the lab is preferred.<BR> '''Contact:''' Please send a cover letter describing your research interests and a resume to [[BiomicroCenter:People|Stuart Levine]]
